University Challenge: Trevs vs. Ustinov

On Monday evening Trevs Bar was once again packed to the edges, however this time it wasn't due to the pumping music, and there weren't a craze of dance moves filling the dance floor. This time it was for something much more serious.

It was the first of this years University Challenge matches for the Trevs team, who had been selected via a rigorous and challenging quiz, just days previously.
It was there first match, and a challenging one at that. We were competing against the Postgraduate College, Ustinov!

The Trevs team comprises of three undergraduate students, and one PHD student from an array of disciplines, and all with incredible knowledge (as expected!)

The game took off to a fantastic start for Trevs! Buzzers lit up continually for the blue team, each time pipping Ustinov to the post (or buzzer in this case!)

The challenging questions were read out by our own Jeremy Paxman, otherwise known as Mark, and were scored by Bridget, our JCR Treasurer.

Trevs managed to retain a small lead throughout, which gradually got bigger...

...that was until the last five starters. And then Ustinov began to challenge the Trevelyan team.

Supporters watched on in anticipation, many trying to answer the challenging questions in their own heads, others too tense to concentrate on anything but who would get the next point!

As the full-time whistle was blown, many thought Trevs had taken the lead and beaten the first of their competeters, however this wasn't the case.

It was announced that the teams were drawing on 155 points each!

It was time for a 'best of three'!

The first question was taken by Trevs, the second, Ustinov. Tensions were rising, and the atmosphere in the bar was electric...

The third and final question was asked. The buzzer buzzed, the answer was given, and the crowd erupted!

Hollaway-Neville, Durham (our top scorer) had answered the third and final question correctly.

Trevs had done it!

Spectators were beaming with happiness whilst the Trevs team dashed over to congratualte Ustinov for such a fantastic, challenging and tense game. The smallest Hill college showed one part of their many talents, once again!

It is important to Thank the Students' Union for enabling to put on such a fantastic event, and thank our wonderful Bar Sabb, Jenny, for letting us use the space!

Why not pop along to watch Trevs next fixture on the 20/10/14 at Collingwood College against a Wildcard Team?!
